The new William A. Hough High School is getting ready for its debut school year by holding several organizational meetings. See below for details about: a PTSA organizational meeting set for Monday, curriculum night Tuesday, symphonic band auditions May 1, marching band drum major auditions May 7, and an Athletic Boosters meeting set for May 11.
The new public high school is still under construction on Bailey Road in Cornelius. Organizational meetings will be held at Bailey Middle School.

PTSA ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
Parents voted last month to establish a PTSA (Parent-Teacher-Student Association) at Hough High. (See our March 10 post, Hough High ‘almost fully staffed.’)
Interested parents can now become charter members of the Hough High PTSA by attending an organizational meeting Monday, April 26, starting at 6:30 p.m. The night will feature the election of officers and approval of bylaws.

CURRICULUM INFO NIGHT FOR HOUGH HIGH
Hough High Principal Terri Cockerham will host a “9th Grade Curriculum Information Night” Tuesday, April 27, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the cafetorium of Bailey Middle School.
Dr. Cockerham will discuss the status of the high school building construction, while staff members will discuss registration and the high school transition. Athletic director Masanori Toguchi will overview sports teams for the Huskies, while curriculum updates will be offered for: English, math, science, world history, foreign languages, band, fine arts, technical education, heath and physical education.
HOUGH HIGH BAND AUDITIONS
Those interested in band at Hough High will be able to choose from marching band, jazz ensemble, concert band, Winterguard and more. Band Director Robert Carrington has a website listing his planned course offerings for the upcoming school year.
Symphonic band, for top instrumentalists, is intended for rising sophomores and juniors. Auditions will be held Thursday, April 29, 7-9 p.m., and Saturday, May 1, noon – 3 p.m., at the Music and Arts Center in Huntersville.
Drum major auditions will be held Friday, May 7, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at Bailey Middle.
The school’s first Athletic Booster Club meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 11, 6:30-8:30 p.m., also at Bailey Middle.
