Ada Jenkins Center, regional community services center on Gamble Street, said Monday it has received a $40,000 grant from Sisters of Mercy of North Carolina Foundation Inc. The money will support the center’s Mobile Dental Clinic and other operating expenses.
The Ada Jenkins Center provides health, social and economic services to low-income residents in Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville and south Iredell counties.
The center’s 19 programs and services include free medical and dental clinics, crisis assistance, the Loaves & Fishes food pantry, mental health counseling, Latino services and an after-school tutoring program called LEARN Works. Last year the Center supported 12,691 residents in need, providing more than 20,000 units of service.

Meanwhile, the “FIRE 2010″ fund-raising barbecue competition and 5K race are scheduled Saturday, April 17, at the Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble St. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the center, or online at www.adajenkins.org. Race registration is $25 ($35 day of) and includes a ticket to the BBQ. Register for the race online at www.queencitytiming.com. The 5K Race begins at 10 am. BBQ is served from 11 am – 2 pm.
