Davidson’s Town Board will convene Wednesday at The Village Inn downtown for its all-day quarterly retreat that will help plan the 2010-11 town budget. The meeting, which begins at 8:30 a.m., includes a planned 2 1/2 hour closed session to examine “personnel implications” of next year’s budget.
Facing a continued dip in tax and fee revenues and a likely need to continue supporting the money-losing MI-Connection cable system, that could mean potential layoffs or unfilled positions next year. Town Manager Leamon Brice warned town employees in a series of meetings in January that the cable system’s troubles could mean budget cuts and layoffs.
The board also will spend Wednesday morning reviewing its goals and action plan. In January, the board agreed it wants to build Davidson as a “national model of a healthy community” with a series of goals that address town government, businesses and residents. That includes ensuring Town Hall’s financial stability and the community’s economic sustainability.
