
Helen Withers Stokes
Helen Withers Stokes, formerly of Davidson, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Asbury Nursing Center in Charlotte. She was 86. A funeral is planned Friday, Jan. 22. Details below.
Mrs. Stokes was born on Jan. 17, 1924, in Charlotte, and was the daughter of the late Flossie Rhyne Withers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Colonel Arthur J Stokes Sr. and her son-in-law, Thomas Necochea.
Helen graduated from Harding High School and married Arthur in 1943. She left Charlotte and traveled to many different countries to serve as an officer’s wife in the US Air Force.
Survivors include her son: Arthur J, Stokes, Jr. (Rocky), and wife Rita; Rebecca Necochea, of Cochran, Georgia; Grandchildren: Jason Stokes, Katy Stokes, Traci Faulk, Terri Larue, Tammi Hayes, and Kristen Necochea; eight great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Many thanks to Dr. John Lacouture and the caring staff at Aldersgate and Asbury Care Center for their excellent care to Helen over the past 15 years.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 22, 2010 at Raymer Funeral Home, with family visitation one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM.
Burial will be at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery.
The family request that no flowers be sent and memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
