William A. Hough High is now officially the Home of the Huskies!
The new high school on Bailey Road, set to open in August, let the public vote on three mascot possibilities and announced the results Friday morning.
“We had close to 400 people respond and 52 percent were for the Huskies,” said Principal Terri Cockerham via e-mail. She added that 40 percent voted for the Wolves and eight percent for the Hornets.
The school’s new colors are black, silver and white, preferred by a margin of 78 percent. The school offered two other color options, both using green.
“We had posted green and gold and then realized we should have eliminated it because those are Independence High School colors,” noted Dr. Cockerham.
The school is now forming a committee of future Hough High students to pick a logo, motto and school crest. Interested students should email administrator Terry Barbee at t.barbee@cms.k12.us. The committee will convene shortly after the winter break.
