SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Stella Johnston Moore of Spartanburg, S.C., a Davidson native, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital in Spartanburg. She was 89.
Born January 18, 1920, in Davidson, she was the daughter of the late Houston Monroe and Sallie Sigmon Johnston and wife of the late Charles Lee Moore. She was a valedictorian graduate of Davidson High School, attended Davidson College, and graduated from the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, the Loyalty Sunday School Class, and Circle No. 6.
Survivors include a son, Robert Johnston Moore of Aiken, S.C.; a daughter, Catherine Moore Hanks and her husband Bobby of Spartanburg; three grandchildren, Ryan Hanks of Melbourne, Fla., Robbie Moore and his wife Kristen of Evans, Ga., and Karen Cannon and her husband Brandon of Augusta, Ga.; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 1 to 1:45 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, Spartanburg. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the chapel, conducted by the Rev. David B. Smith and the Rev. Dr. Charles A. Graves. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
