Davidson firefighters responded to a variety of minor fire calls and false alarms over the past week, including one early Saturday at a Davidson College student residence where they found an herbaceous odor had set off an alarm.

FIRE CALLS
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 18, 12:31 p.m., 11900 Bailey Road, Cornelius – Odor of smoke, fire alarm activated. No fire.
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 18, 1:53 p.m., 17730 River Ford Drive, River Run – Firefighters responded to a possible vehicle fire. They found a trash trucks with brakes overheated. The owner called for maintenance.
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 18, 1:55 p.m., Davidson Elementary School, 635 South St. – Davidson police called in report of a ringing fire alarm, and asked firefighters to check. Nothing found. School officials were advised to contact maintenance.
THURSDAY, NOV. 19, 11:32 a.m., 16800 E. Rocky River Road – Dispatched to a report of a tractor-trailer fire. Found truck on the roadside, no fire.
FRIDAY, NOV. 20, 1:05 p.m., Davidson Elementary School, 635 South St. – Firefighters were called to the school for a report of a person trapped. They found a female with her finger caught in a bench next to the playground. Ice and petroleum jelly were used to free it.
FRIDAY, NOV. 20, 1:20 p.m., Davidson College Tomlinson dorm, 133 Glasgow St. – Fire alarm activation, panel showed smoke detector activated in student room. No fire. Notified campus police.
SATURDAY, NOV. 21, 5:10 a.m., Davidson College Martin Court Apartments, 410 Ridge Road – Smoke detector activated, no fire. Cornelius firefighters were the first on scene to a report of a smoke detector sounding. They found smoke and steam coming from an oven. They also forced open a locked door to a student bedroom, where they found smoke and the odor of marijuana.
SUNDAY, NOV. 22, 2:17 a.m., Davidson College, Martin Court Apartments, 409 Ridge Road – Food on a stove began smoking, and activated a smoke alarm.
MONDAY, NOV. 23, 4:52 p.m., Boardwalk condos, 701 Southwest Drive – A caller reported a water leak. Firefighters arrived and found water flowing from the ceiling fixtures in his second floor condo. They knocked on doors of two upstairs units and got no answer, so they called Davidson police. With police they forcibly entered the third-floor units and in one found that a fitting had come loose on a water line in the master bath. A valve was closed and electricity was shut off. Condo owners were advised to contact Duke Energy to check electricity.
