Phyllis Torrence Wilhelm, 86, of Cornelius, died Nov. 12, 2009, at Olde Knox Commons. A service is planned Monday.

Mrs. Wilhelm was born on July 26, 1923, in Mecklenburg County to Samuel and Lucy Torrence. She was a member of the Kiker Sunday School Class at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and a member of Circle No. 1 of the United Methodist Women. She was a licensed practical nurse, and retired after working 17 years at Presbyterian Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husbands David Sherrill and Ed Wilhelm, and numerous siblings. Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Cornelius. Visitation will follow.
