Davidson’s men’s soccer team lost to Elon, 2-1, in overtime Saturday night in Elon. Despite the loss, the Wildcats came up No. 21 in the latest Soccer America poll released Monday, aided in part by last week’s victory over No. 6 ranked Duke.
Charlie Reiter had his team’s only goal as the Wildcats ended a 7-game winning streak. They’re now 9-2 on the season, 2-1 in the Southern Conference. Elon stayed unbeaten at 3-0 in the conference, and raised its overall record to 6-4-1.
The national ranking is the Wildcats’ first since the 2005 season, according to Davidson College sports officials. In an article on DavidsonWildcats.com, coach Matt Spear praised his team: “The national ranking is a tremendous compliment to the guys on the team. They have worked hard, pulled together, and put together a great run.”
