Fifty-five Girl Scout troops from the Mecklenburg 1 Service Unit of the Hornet’s Nest Council fanned across North Mecklenburg on Saturday, Oct. 3, and collected 15,483 pounds of food for the Loaves & Fishes food pantry. The total represents almost a ton more than last year, the first year of the food drive.
“That’s a remarkable accomplishment,” said Belinda West, Service Unit Manager. “The food that the girls collected today will make a big difference in the lives of those who are struggling to feed their families.”
The Girl Scouts filled the pantry at Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson and then sent a trailer full of food back to the Loaves & Fishes distribution center in Charlotte.
