Candidate forum for school board is Wednesday

election2009Mecklenburg Citizens for Public Education, a non-profit advocacy group, will sponsor a candidates’ forum Sept. 23 for the three school board candidates seeking to represent District 1, which includes Davidson.

Robin Bradford, Rhonda Lennon and Gail Summerskill are all expected to attend the forum, to be held Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 7-8 p.m. at the North County Regional Library, located (near the Huntersville Target off Sam Furr Road) at 16500 Holly Crest Lane.

The incumbent, Larry Gauvreau, who has been in office since 2001, did not seek reelection to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools board of directors.

All six districts on the CMS board will be on the ballot for Election Day, set for Tuesday, Nov. 3.  (The three at-large seats on the nine-member board will not be on the 2009 ballot.)  District one includes the towns of Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville and parts of north Charlotte.  School board members serve four year terms.

FORUMS IN DAVIDSON

The three District 1 candidates also have been invited to a pair of forums here in Davidson in October.

The Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce plans a forum at Town Hall on Thursday, Oct. 15, 7:30 to 9 p.m., at Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. Also present will be the eight active candidates for Davidson Town Board.

Then Oct. 22 at 7 p.m., the St. Alban’s neighborhood and DavidsonNews.net will sponsor a second local forum with Town Board and school board candidates at St. Alban’s Church.
