Construction work was underway Tuesday morning on the front entrance to the new high school on Bailey Road.
Bailey Road High?
Davidson-Cornelius High?
What should be the new name for the high school currently under construction on Bailey Road in Cornelius? The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are seeking input on what to name the building, and also offering the public a chance to learn more about construction progress and to check out the school’s attendance maps. Principal Terri Cockerham is holding two drop-in info sessions this month about the high school.
The sessions will be held at the North Learning Community (16630 Northcross Drive, Huntersville) on Thursday, Sept. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday, Sept. 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. In addition to submitting school name recommendations, families can also learn about the school’s construction schedule and view architectural renderings and a map of the attendance zone.

CMS Board policies recommend that school names represent the geographic area or community in which the school is located, a historical figure or location, or an individual who is deceased whose name has special significance or who made an outstanding contribution to the school or school system, community, state or nation.
Dr. Cockerham will appoint a School Name Advising Committee that will review, research and select three names to be presented to CMS Superintendent Peter Gorman. Those recommendations will then be sent to the school board for vote this fall. The new high school will open in August 2010.
