Davidson police are now closely enforcing the “road closed” sign at Kimberly and Concord roads. The town’s main east-west route is closed at East Rocky River Road so a construction crew can work on the new roundabout at the busy intersection. The police enforcement comes as some drivers have been spotted ignoring the sign and using the shoulder and a bicycle path to illegally skirt the road closing.
DavidsonNews.net’s Brenda Barger, who lives nearby and whose family provided land for the roundabout, has been watching the intersection. She said: “Drivers still think they can get through. The police are patrolling every hour and writing warning tickets for those who disregard the barricade. Anyone who uses the bike path to bypass the construction will be ticketed.”

The road was blocked on Saturday and is expected to reopen in time for rush hour Monday morning. When the road reopens Monday, the roundabout will be open, with a few minor details remaining before construction is complete, according to town announcement Friday.
The state DOT is spending $600,000 of federal stimulus money to build the roundabout. Friday’s town announcement said the work is ahead of schedule. Original estimates said it would be done in October.

The intersection was open this morning at 6:30 when I jogged by. Nice, quick work!
