Barbara Presnell

Poet Barbara Presnell will be the guest speaker Thursday, Sept. 10, at a meeting of Charlotte Writers’ Club North here in Davidson. The meeting is open to the public and begins at 7 p.m. at So Alive Gallery, 108 S. Main St.

Ms. Presnell’s collection “Piece Work” won the 2006 Cleveland State University Poetry Center’s First Book Prize and was published by CSU in 2007. A selection of the poems was awarded the 2004 Linda Flowers Prize from the N.C. Humanities Council and was published as “Sherry’s Prayer” in the N.C. Crossroads series.

“Piece Work” also has been adapted for the stage by Brenda P. Schleunes, producing artistic director of the Touring Theatre of North Carolina, and is performed in community colleges and other venues across the state.

Ms. Presnell also has published three chapbooks, and her poems appear widely in journals and anthologies. She is a 2002 and 2008 recipient of a North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship.

The Charlotte Writers’ Club was founded in 1922 to support Charlotte’s community of writers.
