Davidson freshmen arrived Wednesday. Bet they're glad not to be wearing one of these: a freshman beanie. More on the college archives website. (Click photo)
Davidson College came out as the No. 2 ranked “up and coming” liberal arts college in the nation and the No. 8 liberal arts college overall in U.S. News & World Report magazines “Best Colleges 2010.” The rankings are online today.
Davidson fell one notch in the “up and coming ranking,” after leading the category last year. US News gave the top spot to Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. Davidson tied with Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga. for No. 2 in the category.
But Davidson gained a spot in the overall liberal arts college list, where it was ninth last year. (See last year’s rankings, Aug. 22, 2008, “Davidson tops US News list of ‘up and coming’ schools”)
The top 3 liberal arts colleges in the rankings were Williams, Amherst and Swarthmore.
Harvard and Princeton tied for No. 1 on the list of national universities, followed by Yale, CalTech, MIT, Stanford and Penn.
In July, a Princeton Review survey ranked Davidson College professors No. 1.
