Davidson Lands Conservancy has added a new component to its annual “Run for Green” fund-raising half-marathon and other running races scheduled this September. This year’s races, scheduled Sept. 19, will include a “Davidson Green Day” festival on the Village Green, with exhibits about sustainability.
Organizers say the festival will offer tips on saving time, money and natural resources, while focusing on what can be done locally to protect the environment.
The festival will be Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., following that morning’s races along town streets and greenway trails. Green Day will include live music and volunteer opportunities. Ingersoll-Rand is the lead sponsoring of Davidson Green Day.
ADDING A 10K, NEW ROUTES
The Run for Green, now in its fifth year, has added new elements as well. The run will offer competitors a half-marathon course, 5K, and a new 10K race this year.
Routes are slightly different from past years, and all races will start and end near the Village Green. Routes will follow the Town of Davidson’s public greenways. The runs are sponsored by Omega Sports, which will offer gift cards as part of prize packages for winners in various age groups.
Run for Green attracted over 800 participants in 2008. All proceeds benefit the Davidson Lands Conservancy.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Volunteers are needed for all aspects of the festival and the races. To volunteer, register as a runner, or to access an exhibitor application for Green Day, go to www.davidsonlands.org. Or, contact the DLC at 704-892-1910.
