Sara Rodgers Rowe, 83, of Queens Cove Road, Mooresville, died Friday, July 10, 2009, at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville. A memorial service is planned Monday, July 13, at 2 p.m., at Davidson United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Chancel Choir and Bible study.
Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late James Barr Rodgers and Mary Nichols Rodgers and the wife of the late Joseph Howard Rowe, Jr. She attended Catawba College until her marriage to Joseph Rowe. During World War II she worked at The Pentagon while her husband served in the Marine Corps. Mr. Rowe’s career took them to numerous communities throughout the country where she established a home for the family and was actively involved with volunteer activities.
With her children grown, Mrs. Rowe completed her college degree at Goddard College in Vermont, earning a degree in psychiatry. Up until her husband’s retirement she volunteered at a mental hospital in Boston.
An accomplished musician, Mrs. Rowe was a violinist with several organizations. Her involvement with the Chancel Choir and Bible Study at Davidson United Methodist Church was a source of great pleasure for her.
She is survived by her daughter, Alison Rowe and husband Stephen Iglehart of Cornelius; her son, J. Gordon Rowe and wife Sally of Marion, SC; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Barringer of Mooresville, and Mrs. Marian Lang of Camden, SC; her brother, Mr. James Rodgers of Clemson, SC; three granddaughters, Laura Iglehart, Sara and Rebecca Rowe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Monday, July 13, 2009, at 2:00 p.m., at Davidson United Methodist Church with Dr. Jody Seymour officiating. The family expresses their appreciation to the staff at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville and to Hospice of Iredell County.
