Efforts to form a permanent Unitarian Universalist presence in the area are moving forward. UU Fellowship of Lake Norman will meet again Monday, July 13, to discuss its future, in a program called “The Reality of it All: Living the Vision.” The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble St., Davidson.
Organizer Jeff Pender said Thursday that since beginning with just three people last December, the group’s meetings now attract 20 or more.
“It seems to be working well,” he said. Meetings are Monday nights right now, and members are looking for ways to expand involvement to more people.
“A lot of people are interested in how we can get children involved,” Mr. Pender said.
Mr. Pender and four other people have joined a steering committee to help plot the group’s future. Besides Mr. Pender, they are Paul Gibbs, Tracie Latham, Laurie Walker, and Peg Harman.
“This committee will be tasked with helping shape our future and begin the process of evaluating our next moves,” Mr. Pender said.
Since December, the group has advanced from talk of whether it could be viable to planning for regular programs with speakers, music and spiritual nurturing, Mr. Pender said.
“Our fellowship has started to define its identity and bond as a spiritual community,” he said.
Monday night’s meeting will be “about the vision for the group,” he said.
