Residents in the River Run neighborhood have complained to the police department about a man attempting to sell meat by knocking on doors. In at least one instance, a resident bought meat from a salesman and later found it was not what he claimed.
Police Chief Jeanne Miller said police have received several calls about a man driving a white truck with a camper top. He tells residents he is with a company named Omega Meats.
One resident of Old Arbor Court in River Run told DavidsonNews.net she bought meat from a man who said he was a contractor for Omega Meats. He was offering individually sealed meat, chicken, and seafood from a company-rented truck. “The problem is that he claims that the chicken is free-range and the beef is grass-fed and he even will give the name of the farms. But when I called the company whose name is on the box as well as Omega Meats headquarters, I found out that they are neither,” the woman said.
Charlotte Better Business Bureau lists both Omega Meats headquarters and a Concord affiliate, neither of which has BBB accreditation. The headquarters got a D-plus rating from the BBB, while the Concord affiliate has an F rating.
“My personal experience was that he claimed I was getting filet mignon and when I opened up the boxes I found out that they were not,” the resident said. She said she tried unsuccessfully to contact the salesman, and stopped payment on her check before the company could cash it.
Chief Miller reminds residents that door-to-door sales are illegal in Davidson. (Solicitations for non-profit purposes are allowed during daylight hours, but only after obtaining a permit from the police department.)
