As we’ve noted before, DavidsonNews.net is drawing a bit of attention beyond Davidson for its efforts to create
a sustainable business model to support local newsgathering. Today, with apologies, we’d like to point you to a couple of links about ourselves: The first, a profile on public radio station WFAE-FM in Charlotte, and the second, a Q&A on a website of the “New Business Models for News” project at City University of New York, where researchers are studying what’s working and what’s not.
WFAE reporter Marshall Terry came to Davidson a few weeks ago for our first ever subscriber party and community gathering at Summit Coffee. He interviewed me and others about how DavidsonNews.net is bringing local news to Davidson. His report aired Monday, July 6, during “Morning Edition.” To listen, CLICK HERE>
Meanwhile, as part of a major research project on New Business Models for News, researchers at City University of New York School of Journalism are profiling news start-ups and online news organizations. I talked last week with Matt Sollars who is a member of the team. He posted a Q&A based on our conversation on the NewsInnovation.com website.
And keep your eye for a coming issue of Charlotte Magazine, where DavidsonNews.net will be among a collection of web startups featured.
By the way, the WFAE piece refers to our website traffic as “12,000 hits” per month. It’s actually 12,000 unique visitors per month, or individual readers. Our page views total more than 70,000 per month.
