United Way of Central Carolinas is leading a drive this week to collect toiletries for homeless women and families entering the Women in Transition women at the YWCA.
The United Way says more than 6,550 people are homeless in the Charlotte–Mecklenburg area. That includes people living on the streets, staying in shelters and with friends and family, or living in transitional or permanent supportive housing. Nearly half are families; more than a third are children.
Anita Self, Director of Philanthropy for the YWCA, said, “We offer toiletry items for the homeless women and families entering the Women in Transition Program…however, the YWCA is running very low on these types of donations.”
You can help dropping off needed toiletries for homeless shelters in our community. The drive kicks off Monday at 8 a.m at The Plaza at Two Wachovia Center, at 301 S. Tryon St. in Charlotte, and continues at various locations all week.
The drive will end Friday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at United Way of Central Carolinas, 301 South Brevard St. in Charlotte.
