NASA says the Space shuttle Endeavour has been cleared for an early Wednesday launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida after repairs were made to contain a gas leak that delayed the launch. The flight will be carrying Dr. Tom Marshburn, a 1982 Davidson College grad and brother of Davidson resident Paul Marshburn.
Davidson College physics professor Larry Cain was in Florida for the planned Saturday launch, but had to return home. He said Tuesday he was planning to return to Florida in hopes of catching the second try at a launch.
NASA says Endeavour is scheduled to lift off at 5:40 a.m. EDT Wednesday. Mission leaders were to meet at 7:30 p.m. to give the go-ahead for loading Endeavour’s external fuel tank. If all goes as planned, fueling will begin at 8:15 p.m.
