Organizers have postponed the “Art for Life” fund-raiser that had been planned this Saturday, April 25, at St. Alban’s Espiscopal Church, citing “the current economic stress and time pressures on our friends and neighbors.” The Kate MacIntyre Foundation planned the event to raise money for lung cancer research and education.
The fund-raiser will be rescheduled, organizers said.
The foundation was organized in honor of the late Kate MacIntyre, the Downtown Davidson Inc. director and driving force behind the town’s public art program. The event had been scheduled to coincide with the Saturday morning’s dedication of the the town’s first public art sculpture in her memory. (See related stories in our “public art” category.)
Here’s the text of the foundation’s announcement Monday:
Recognizing the current economic stress and time pressures on our friends and neighbors, the Kate MacIntyre Foundation announced today a postponement of the Art for Life fund-raiser scheduled for this Saturday, April 25, at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Davidson.
Peter Macon, president of the Foundation said: “Kate saw the need to raise awareness of the need for early testing and detection of Lung Cancer, particularly among non-smoking women and raise funding for effective clinical trials in the treatment of Lung Cancer.”
“The foundation created in her memory will continue in this mission and will announce a rescheduling of our Art for Life fund-raiser soon. In the meantime, talk to your loved ones, friends, and neighbors – talk about Lung cancer, and be aware that 20 percent of women diagnosed are non smokers.”
Macon also offered thanks to to the Town of Davidson, the Davidson Public Art Commission, and our many friends for their support of public art. Kate was passionate about linking and blending community and art, and she most certainly would approve of the direction in which Davidson is moving.”
Plans for rescheduling Art for Life, as well as information on lung cancer in non-smokers, are available at katemacintyrefoundation.org.
