Main Street/N.C. 115 just north of Catawba Avenue in Cornelius will be one lane only today and tomorrow and completely closed overnight Tuesday for utility work. The town of Cornelius said a state utility crew will be working on storm water drains between Mulberry and Legion streets.
ROAD CLOSED
N.C. 115 will be one-way only until 4 p.m. Tuesday. Then both lanes will be closed from Tuesday at 8 p.m. until Wednesday at 6 a.m.
Cornelius planner Jason Prescott initially said workers will be installing “storm drainage features.”
He said the work is unrelated to the planned overhaul of the N.C. 115/Catawba Avenue intersection, which is also underway. That is to include extending Catawba Avenue east, across the railroad tracks, to create a new entrance to the Antiquity Cornelius mixed-use development, east of Main Street. (Updated 5 p.m. with new information from the town to clarify that the work is unrelated to Antiquity./DB)
Zion Street in Cornelius is already closed for work on the new intersection, and is expected to remain closed for at least two months, said Becky Partin, of the Cornelius planning department.
The Catawba Avenue extension was required as part of the approval for Antiquity, a development of homes, apartments, shops and offices.
Mr. Prescott said future closings at N.C. 115 and Catawba are likely, though they will “intermittent,” and mostly overnight.
DETOUR
Cornelius officials said drivers on N.C. 115 northbound will be detoured west on Catawba Avenue to I-77, then north to Exit 30/Griffith Street, then back to N.C. 115 in Davidson.
