Stephen Curry scored 32 points to lead Davidson over South Carolina  70-63 in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament men’s basketball tournament in Columbia, S.C.

Andrew Lovedale had 17 points and 9 rebounds to help the Wildcats. They’ll play St. Mary’s (Moraga, Calif.), which beat Washington State 68-57 later Tuesday night.

Davidson will play its second round game at St. Mary’s, near San Francisco, on Monday night at 11:30 p.m. EDT. It will air on ESPN2. Updated bracket on NIT.org.

The win raised No. 6 seed Davidson’s record to 27-7 on the year. South Carolina’s season ended at 21-10. The Gamecocks had been seeded third in their NIT bracket.

Davidson led by as much as 11 points during the first half, but the Gamecocks closed the margin to within 2 at halftime.

Davidson has now won four of its last five postseason games, and has gone 3-1 in its last four NIT contests … Head coach Bob McKillop coached his 599th career contest at the collegiate level… Curry topped 30 points for the 30th time in his career, and the 15th time this season … Lovedale set a new school record for career games played, and has now appeared in 129 contests… Curry moved into the top 30 on the NCAA career scoring record books, passing Joe Dumars… He now has 2,609 points in his three-plus seasons … He also broke his own school record for single-season scoring, with 948 points, passing the 931 he scored in the 2007-08 season.
