A landscaping truck caught fire on Concord Road at the entrance to Davidson College’s Baker Sports Complex around 3 p.m. Monday, halting traffic for a short time.

Davidson firefighters poured water on the blaze and put the fire out quickly, but not before it destroyed a lawn mower  and damaged the truck bed. The truck had a sign identifying it as belonging to Webb Irrigation and Landscaping.

Firefighters on the scene said it appeared the fire may have started when dried grass in the truck bed came in contact with a hot lawn mower engine.

The fire may have damaged wires and equipment on a utility pole next to the truck. Firefighters asked dispatchers to notify the cable and telephone companies.
