A northbound tractor-trailer on I-77 just north of Exit 28 in Cornelius jack-knifed and hit a guardrail in the center median shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday, backing up traffic on the highway and sending motorists onto back roads.
Davidson and Cornelius firefighters responded to the accident. Firefighters said the truck jack-knifed and ruptured a gas tank, spilling 40 to 50 gallons of diesel fuel.
N.C. Department of transportation reported that the left lane northbound was closed.
Nobody was hurt in the accident, which has led to backups in both directions on Main Street/Highway 115 in Davidson and Cornelius.
