Davidson-Concord Road remained closed east of Robert Walker Drive near the River Run neighborhood at mid-afternoon as a downed tree and power lines blocked the road.

Public works supervisor Ron McMillan told DavidsonNews.net Duke Energy has told the town it plans to come work on the tangle of tree limbs and power lines by 11 p.m.

Meanwhile, Lorimer Road remained closed between College Drive and Woodland Street because of trees down across the road as well. A tree service was expected there this afternoon to begin cutting through branches and vines on several trees knocked down there.

Most major streets and some sidestreets in town were dry by mid-afternoon today, as bright sun and temperatures in the high 30s melted snow. The weather also was melting wet snow off branches, relieving pressure on many sagging old trees.

DAVIDSON-CONCORD CLOSURE

The closing of Davidson-Concord Road cuts off a major artery into and out of Davidson. Orange cones and “Road Closed” signs blocked the road at Robert Walker Drive to keep traffic from heading east toward the tree, which was down in the 19000 block of Davidson-Concord Road. A similar barrier was erected on the east side of the downed tree.

At mid-afternoon Monday, some drivers could be seen ignoring the barriers by   sliding through the muddied front yard of a home near the downed tree and under fallen power lines.
