Installation of a new crosswalk on Concord Road, at the entrance to Davidson College’s Baker Sports Complex, will cause lane closings Thursday and a road closing next week. The joint project of the college and town public works department includes the addition of a stamped crosswalk and a large Davidson Wildcat cat’s paw insignia will be added to the street, public works chief Doug Wright said Wednesday.
The new crossing will be installed between 9 and 5 Thursday on Concord at Baker Drive, the road into the sports complex. The crossing will appear similar to those already existing nearby along Concord and Main streets, Mr. Wright said. The work will require one lane at a time to be closed, he said.
Meanwhile, a large “thermoplastic” cat paw print also will be installed, which will require both lanes to be closed. That work had been scheduled for Thursday, but it has been postponed until Monday (weather permitting) because of concerns over high winds.
(Update: the Cat’s paw was installed Thursday, Feb. 19. See a photo in our Feb. 19 report.)
