Veteran journalist Sawyer speaks at college Monday

Jon Sawyer, founding director of the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting, Washington, D.C., will visit Davidson College Monday for an afternoon panel discussion and an evening lecture titled “Broken News: What Went Wrong and How to Make it Right.” He’ll also participate in a panel discussion Monday afternoon with other journalists from the Charlotte area.

Mr. Sawyer is former Washington bureau chief for the St. Louis Dispatch and longtime foreign correspondent who has covered the world for three decades. At the Pulitzer Center is a non-profit organization that says it funds “independent reporting with the intent of raising the standard of media coverage of global affairs.”

Here’s Mr. Sawyer’s schedule:

  • MONDAY, FEB. 2, 4-5 p.m., Davidson College Carolina Inn Parlor, Main Street – Journalism Roundtable with Jon Sawyer; Jennie Buckner, former executive editor of The Charlotte Observer, David Boraks, editor and publisher of DavidsonNews.net; Bill Giduz, Davidson College director of media relations; and Steve Gunn, editor for new products and innovations at the Charlotte Observer. They’ll discuss the role of “new media” and the changing way news is delivered.
  • MONDAY, FEB. 2, 7 p.m., Davidson College Sloan Music Center Tyler-Tallman Hall – Jon Sawyer lecture: “Broken News: What Went Wrong and How to Make it Right.” Details on the College website.
