The Town of Davidson said Wednesday it will expand the weekly Davidson Dash shuttle bus service to all residents beginning next Monday, Feb. 2, and extend its route to include the Food Lion shopping center in Cornelius.
The weekly Monday service initially was planned to serve residents 55 and over and those with minor disabilities. It was to have begun this week, Monday, Jan. 26, but the town received insufficient reservations.
The bus will pick up Davidson residents at their homes and shuttle them the Harris Teeter shopping center, Sadler Square on Griffith Street, Main Street downtown, South Main Street or the Food Lion in Cornelius.
RESERVATIONS REQUIRED
The bus will operate every Monday 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. To ride, residents must reserve a seat before noon on Fridays by calling the Parks & Recreation Department at 704-892-3349 or reserving online at www.d-recs.org.
Round-trip rides are $1 and priority still will be given to those over 55, the town said. Passengers must be able to board and disembark the bus on their own.
The Davidson Dash is a pilot program, created through a grant received from the Aging in Place Initiative, the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging, with support from the Metlife Foundation.
