Organ at Davidson continues its third season with a concert Tuesday, Jan. 27,  at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of Davidson College Presbyterian Church featuring Jane Dimmock Cain. The concert comes as Ms. Cain celebrates three decades as music director and organist.

A reception in the church parlor by Friends of the Organ follows the program.

Her program includes music by the French/Italian/German Baroque composer Georg Muffat; Dietrich Buxtehude, an important mentor of Bach; chorale-preludes of Bach; and sonatas by Mendelssohn and the American composer Vincent Persichetti. Also the famous “Litanies” of Jehan Alain, French composer killed in WWII, will be featured.

Ms. Cain will repeat the program next month in a concert at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Berkeley, Calif.

30 YEARS AT DCPC

Since 1979, Ms. Cain has been director of music and organist at DCPC, where she directs half of the 10 choral and handbell choirs and also plays at services. She holds a bachelor of music degree from Salem College master of music degree  from UNC-Chapel Hill, where her teachers were John Mueller and Rudolph Kremer respectively. Additional studies have been with Joan Lippincott, Arthur Poister and Marie-Claire Alain.

Under her leadership, DCPC obtained a one-manual tracker organ for its Lingle Chapel and recently refurbished its Wicks Pipe Organ, making possible the organ recital series to enhance life in the community and region. Listeners to WDAV-FM at 11 a.m. on Sundays hear the organ and the fruits of Ms. Cain’s work with choirs and musicians.

An extensive performer throughout the nation and in Europe, she is an active member of Charlotte Chapter of American Guild of Organists. She is an AGO-certified Associate. Under her direction the DCPC choir performed at the International Adventsing in Vienna, Austria, the International Choral Festival in Leipzig, Germany, and was invited to lead worship at General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA.
