Stephen Curry had 39 points, including hitting 6 of 10 three-point shots, as the Davidson men’s basketball team ran over Elon University Wednesday night, 83-68, at Belk Arena. The win lifted the Wildcats to 13-3 overall and 6-0 in the Southern Conference.
Davidson opened up a 46-24 lead at halftime with the help of Curry’s 23 points. But Elon came out strong in the second half and whittled away at the big lead, coming as close as 13. But a flurry of baskets from Curry helped the Cats stay comfortably ahead.
It was the Wildcats’ 36th straight victory in the Southern Conference and its 24th consecutive win at Belk Arena, seven of which have come this year. They were last defeated in Davidson on Jan. 20, 2007 by Appalachian State.
The loss dropped Elon to 4-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference. Leading the scoring for The Phoenix was forward Ola Atoyebi with 27.
Davidson travels to Statesboro, Ga., Saturday for a 3 o’clock game against Georgia Southern. They’re back in Davidson next Wednesday, Jan. 21, to host Furman at 7 p.m.
