Ada Jenkins Center is continuing to sell tickets for its ICE 2009 fund-raising event Saturday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. The Peninsula Club in Cornelius. The annual event is aimed at raising both money and awareness of the center, which is at 212 Gamble St. in Davidson.
Last year, the ICE gala raised $40,000 to help pay for a variety of activities at Ada Jenkins, including the After-School Program, which provides tutoring for 60 area elementary children; the Mobile Community Dental Clinic and the Center’s free medical clinic. With a broad array of medical, youth education, crisis assistance and economic independence programs in place, the Ada Jenkins Center has a history of stretching funds to ensure this mix of comprehensive services remains.
“The success of ICE 2009 is crucial, now more than ever,” said event co-chair Lisa Koenig. “The state of our economy, both locally and nationally, has already caused the number of clients we serve to rise dramatically. We absolutely need help from our community to make sure no one has to face eviction or loss of heat this winter.”
