A busy week coming up here in Davidson, with the regular monthly Town Board meeting Tuesday, a magnet school fair in Cornelius Tuesday, a CD-release party for local mandolin player Michael Orlando on Saturday, and the Ada Jenkins Center’s Ice 2009 fund-raising gala, also Saturday. On the visual art scene, an opening reception is planned Thursday for a new exhibit at Davidson College called “Re/Formations: Disability, Women and Sculpture.” And Lake Norman Art League presents a program on digital photography tonight (Monday). And Davidson Community Players’ production of “Driving Miss Daisy” continues in Charlotte.

On the sports calendar, both the Davidson’s men’s basketball team and women’s team are in action tonight. Davidson travels to Appalachian State, while the women host College of Charleston at Belk Arena at 7 p.m. The men play two more away games this week, at Elon on Wednesday and at Georgia Southern on Saturday.

TUESDAY, JAN. 13, 6 p.m., Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. – Davidson Town Board monthly meeting. Agenda includes a public hearing and vote on proposed amendments to the town’s sign ordinance, a vote whether to endorse adding the Davidson Historic District to the National Register of Historic Places, and confirmation of new members to several town boards and committees. The board also will listen to an update about the MI-Connection cable system, which the town owns with Mooresville. Details in our Friday, Jan. 9, preview.

DAVIDSON DASH SENIOR SHUTTLE BUS – Mondays beginning Jan. 26, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Town of Davidson will begin service on a weekly senior citizens shuttle bus called Davidson Dash. The bus will visit downtown, South Main Street, Sadler Square and the Harris Teeter shopping center near Exit 30. Cost: $1 per roundtrip.
