
Steven O. Baker
Steven O. Baker, 73, of Davidson, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House. His burial and a memorial service are planned Tuesday.
Mr. Baker was born on April 13, 1935, in Mecklenburg County to the late Steven and Rebecca Baker.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as a sergeant at the end of the Korean War. He was a graduate of the North Mecklenburg High School Class of 1953 and a graduate of Carolina Business College. He spent his working career in the trucking industry.
Mr. Baker was a member of Coddle Creek ARP Church and a former member of Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church, where he maintained one of the chapels. He served on the sessions of both churches.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Mason Baker; sons, John Steven Baker and wife, Rita of Davidson, Edward Bain Baker of Kew Gardens, NY, and Robert Bruce Baker and wife, Angie of Davidson; daughters, Amy Lynn Baker of Davidson and Jill Baker-Metts and husband, Kyle, of Davidson; and 10 grandchildren. His sisters, Beulah Tilson and Roberta James precede him in death.
Burial will be held at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Coddle Creek ARP Church with Rev. James Hunt officiating. The family will receive friends following at the church.
