The Town of Davidson plans to begin a weekly shuttle bus service later this month to help residents 55 or older, or with minor disabilities, get to shopping, lunch or other appointments on Main Street, at Exit 30, or other shopping areas in town. The bus, to be called the Davidson Dash, will run Mondays between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The bus will cost $1 per round trip ride, with stops at four locations: the Harris Teeter grocery, Sadler Square, downtown or South Main Street. Seniors may schedule a pickup at their homes. Reservations are due by noon the Friday before, on a first-come first served basis, with a limit of 25. For more information, or to register, call the Parks & Recreation Department at 704-892-3349 or visit d-recs.org.
The Dash was among the proposals of the town’s Aging in Place Task Force last year. Town officials applied for grants, and learned in August that it had been awarded $2,500 from a group called Partners for Livable Communities, in partnership with the National Association on Area Agencies on Aging and the MetLife Foundation.
