The Davidson College men’s basketball team sailed past Samford, 76-55, on Saturday in a sold-out Southern Conference game at Belk Arena. Stephen Curry had 21 points, while Will Archambault added 12 points and 5 rebounds and Ben Allison had 12 points.
The game brought a couple of milestones: Curry’s 21 points made him only the third Wildcat player ever to reach more than 2,000 points in his career. (He joins John Gerdy and Fred Hetzel.) And Davidson Coach Bob McKillop notched the 350th victory of his 20-year coaching career.
Samford’s Bulldogs fell behind 10-0 at the beginning of the game, but crawled back to within a point, 13-12, about halfway through the first half. But Davidson pulled away and widened its lead to 41-25 at halftime.
DUKE IS NEXT
Saturday’s win raised Davidson to 3 wins and no losses in the Southern Conference and 10-2 overall. Samford, a newcomer this season in the Southern Conference, fell to 0-2 in the conference and 5-6 overall.
The Wildcats next travel to fifth-ranked Duke on Wednesday. The game begins at 7 p.m., and is scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN.
