Davidson Community Players said Tuesday they will re-stage their production of “Driving Miss Daisy” in early January at Spirit Square in downtown Charlotte. The show sold out in 2007, two weeks before opening and even after three extra performances were added. The original cast will reprise their roles: Joan Tate as Daisy, Sidney Horton as Hoke, and Greg Hensley as Boolie.
The production opens Jan. 8, exactly 14 months after its initial opening here in Davidson. Eight performances are scheduled, through Jan. 18. Performances will be held in the Duke Energy Theatre at Spirit Square.
“Driving Miss Daisy” is a warm-hearted, humorous and affecting study of the unlikely relationship between an aging, crotchety, white Southern lady, and a proud, soft-spoken black man. It won the 1988 Pulitzer Prize and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play.
