Alan Parker at writers club meeting Dec. 4

On Thursday, Dec. 4, Charlotte Writers’ Club North will welcome Alan Michael Parker, who will read from and talk about his new book of poems, “Elephants & Butterflies” (American Poets Continuum). The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Davidson College’s Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in the Carolina Inn, Main Street in Davidson.
Mr. Parker is professor of English and director of creative writing at Davidson College.
He received his B.A. from Washington University, St. Louis, and his MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University.
In addition to his new book, he has four other books of poems: “A Peal of Sonnets,” “Love Song with Motor Vehicles,” “The Vandals,” and “Days Like Prose.”
He is also the author of a novel, “Cry Uncle,” and co-editor of The Routledge Anthology of Cross-Gendered Verse. His poems have appeared in The American Poetry Review, The New Republic, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, and The Yale Review, among other magazines. Honors include the 2003 Lucille Medwick Award from the Poetry Society of America, a Pushcart Prize, and residences at the Seaside Institute, the MacDowell Colony, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
