Bikes, sales, authors and more

Expect families of college students roaming about the Davidson College campus for “family weekend,” shoppers on main street for the Downtown Davidson Sidewalk Saturday Sale, and cool mountain bikers (including two-time Olympian David “Tinker” Juarez) zooming the trails at Fisher Farm Park.

That’s just a sample of a weekend that includes a visit by author Ron Rash, a reading by local author Alan Michael Parker, a diabetes fundraising event led by Stacey Simms, town meetings about school matters, a talk on Japanese healing arts, an election forum, and even a Hindu festival. This is also the only weekend to catch the college student production of “Communicating Doors” and the second-to-last weekend of the farmer’s market.

Don’t forget our regional calendar, which lists the Renaissance Festival, the Amazing Maize Maze and Saturday’s Spooktacular at North Meck Park.

One Response to “Bikes, sales, authors and more”

  1. Dr. Pat Sellers, a political science professor at Davidson College, had the following excellent addition to the calendar this weekend:

Hi. I wanted to mention another event that’s going on this weekend at the College as part of Parents’ Weekend, that may be of interest to the broader community. As they did 4 years ago, the Young Democrats and College Republicans on campus are having a debate on issues in the presidential election. The interesting twist is that they’re doing it outside, from the porches of Phi and Eu halls, just as partisans used to do 100 years ago at Davidson. It starts at 2:30 on Saturday afternoon. Susan Roberts is moderating the debate. When we did a similar debate 4 years ago, around 200 people showed up to watch. Several people in my neighborhood came and really enjoyed the back-and-forth, so I thought maybe others in town might also be interested this time around.

    Thanks,
    Pat Sellers
