Davidson Community Players offers theater workshops

A new schedule of theater classes for children will begin Oct. 25 at Davidson Community Players, Davidson’s award-winning community theater group. The classes include a new one for middle and high school students called “Write Like Crazy!” taught by Lisa Williams Kline. They also offer classes for pre-schoolers and home-schoolers. Write Like Crazy!
Bring your writing to life in this unique workshop where
tweens and teens can enjoy each other’s writing; receive encouragement, inspiration, and concrete techniques for good writing; and see their writing come to life in a staged reading for family and friends at DCP’s Armour Street Theatre. Taught by Lisa Williams Kline, author of Eleanor Hill (Cricket Books, N.C. Juvenile Literature Award), The Princesses of Atlantis (Cricket Books), Write Before Your Eyes (Delacorte Press).

Connie’s Kids: Classes for Preschoolers

Preschool classes focus on working together, storytelling and basic theatre games. Children have opportunities to work together as well as solo, building self-confidence in a fun and creative manner. Each session culminates with a sharing for parents and friends.

Goin’ Global
Explore stories, poems and music from around the world while building important collaboration skills. Experience theatre games and learn basic performance skills in a fun and creative environment. Each session culminates with a sharing for family and friends.

Theatre Play & Improvisation
Grades 3-5 Wednesdays, 4:30-5:45 FULL

*All classes will move to the Armour Street Theatre beginning November, 2008

Theatre play & Improvisation for Homeschoolers
Explore a broad range of theatre games, improvisation techniques and basic performance skills. Students will work as members of a team, building important cooperation and collaboration skills. Opportunities for differentiated, individual and small group work will build self confidence. The session culminates with a sharing for family and friends.

Ages 10-14 Wednesdays, 1:00-2:15

Coming in May, 2009…DCP & the Connie Company produce The House at Pooh Corner, a theatre for youth production. “On the job” training for actors ages 8 to 17. Auditions February 1-2, 2009
