The town is implementing a telephone alert system that it says eventually will allow officials to deliver recorded calls to all residents in the event of a public safety emergency or incident. The town plans its first test call on Tuesday, Oct. 7, to all pubilcly available primary home and business numbers.
The town is using Connect-CTY, a mass notification service, according to a press release. “Informing residents immediately and accurately in time-sensitive situations is extremely important,” Town Manager Leamon Brice said in the press release. “With the Connect-CTY service, we can quickly and easily notify residents of unforeseen safety matters and other important matters of public interest.
The system allows the town to send alerts throughout town, to specified neighborhoods, or to specific groups it has set up. Citizens can add information the to the system, including whether they use TTY/TDD devices, by contacting the town. Those who use call blocking should add 704-892-7591 to their allowed number list.
If you don’t get a call Tuesday, it may mean your primary number is not on the list. More information about the new service is available on the town website, or by calling 704-892-7591.
