
Bachfest III at St. Alban's
No shortage of things to do this week in Davidson, from
Davidson Reads discussions about Ron Rash’s book “One Foot in Eden” to the 10th annual BBQ, Blanket and Bluegrass festival Friday at Beaver Dam. There’s a talk about human rights at Summit Tuesday, and lots of free music at the college. Saturday morning is Davidson Lands Conservancy’s Run for Green half-marathon, 5k and fun run at the end of South Street. There’s a baby fair on the Green Saturday, and then on Sunday, the season’s final Downtown Davidson Inc. Concert on the Green, with student musicians from Davidson College. St. Alban’s music series starts Sunday with Bachfest III. And it’s anniversary week at Summit Coffee on Main Street, where they’ll mark 10 years in business with a bash on Saturday.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 27, 2:40 p.m., Discovery Place Wachovia Science Theater, Charlotte – Davidson filmmaker Scott Galloway’s film “Children of All Ages” will be screened as part of the Charlotte Film Festival (see above item). The 78-min. film is described as “a three-ringed documentary that weaves the longest running children’s circus, the largest minature circus in the world, and the greatest living Big Top performers, creating a compelling tribute to the most storied entertainment form in American history…the circus.” Tickets $6.50 online, $8 at the door. MONDAY, OCT. 6, 7-9 p.m., Davidson College Duke Family Performance Hall – Screening of “Darius Goes West” and a discussion with the cast and crew of this award-winning documentary, about Darius Weems, a man who lives with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Along with a group of friends from Davidson College and beyond, he journeyed cross country in an RV to raise awareness about children living with the disease. Free.
