Police investigate woman’s death in River Run
Davidson police are awaiting a coroner’s report on the cause of death of a 72-year-old woman who was found dead in her home Friday in the River Run neighborhood.
Police Chief Jeanne Miller said a neighbor called police to the home on River Ford Drive, off Davidson-Concord Road, just after 2 p.m. Friday to check on the resident. She lived alone and the neighbor had not seen her for a couple of days. The deceased woman was found lying on her bedroom floor.
Chief Miller did not identify the woman.
The woman was last heard from around 4 p.m. Wednesday, and may have been dead a couple of days, the chief said. Police found no signs of a break-in, but cordoned off the home and treated it as a crime scene.
“We’re still conducting a death investigation,” Chief Miller said Saturday. “There’s not an obvious homicide. … (But) there were a couple of things that concerned us.”
