Runners charge away from the start at last year's Run for Green.
Hundreds of runners will be in Davidson Saturday, Sept. 20, for the Davidson Lands Conservancy‘s annual Run for Green, including a fun run, 5-k and half-marathon. The events start and end at McEver Field on South Street, with check-in and race-day registration beginning at 6:30 a.m.
The race is a fund-raiser for the lands conservancy, which works to protect green space and other natural assets in Davidson.
The half marathon run (13.1 miles) begins at 7:45 and will follow a course along the Greenway and to River Run swim and tennis club, where it will turn around and head back to town. At 8:15 am, the 5k run begins, on a course that follows the Greenway to Hudson Place and back. The fun run begins at 9 a.m.
Half-Marathon pre-registration is $30, or $40 on the day of the race. There’s a limit of 400 runners in the half-marathon.
William Shires of Charlotte won last year’s half-marathon by nearly 2 1/2 minutes and Brad Troxell of Fort Collins, Colorado, won the 5-k race. More than 350 runners competed in the 2007 events. (See our coverage, Sept. 23, 2007, “Hundreds turn out to Run for Green.”
