In a meeting room at Homewood Suites near Exit 30 Monday night, a congenial crowd gathered to watch an unusual scene: the auction of a large new home at 1022 Concord Road that had failed to sell in the traditional manner.
An auctioneer from Iron Horse Auction Co. of Rockingham first reviewed terms of sale, then began coaxing bidders in a familiar singsong. In less than 10 minutes, Davidson residents Pattie and Ken Lagonia grabbed the home with a bid of $665,000 – well below the previous $800,000-plus asking price.
The two-story home, listed at 3,400 and 4,100 square feet, has 4 bedrooms and 4½ baths. The seller was Burkes Builders LLC, of Mooresville, which had bought the lot in 2003 and built the home on spec.
A MOVE INTO TOWN
The Lagonias are originally from eastern Long Island, N.Y., and currently live at Davidson Point, north of town off Bridges Farm Road. They told DavidsonNews.net they wanted a home “in town.” They had looked at many properties before deciding to take a chance when Burkes Builders put the Concord Road home on the auction block.
Ken Lagonia is a forensic accountant with Bay Area Funding. Pattie is a housewife and most of their family is located in North Mecklenburg.
Their youngest daughter, Katie, lives at home while working as a teacher assistant at Davidson Day School. Oldest daughter, Kari, and her husband, Marshall Bonnes, live in Cornelius with children, Madison (6) and Ryan (18 months). Pattie and Ken’s middle daughter, Colleen, lives just five doors down from her sister. Colleen is married to Howie Fitzgerald and they have a son, Patrick (almost 6). Additional family includes Pattie’s brother, Bill Hanrahan, of Huntersville, her dad, Bill Hanrahan Sr., of Cornelius, and Ken’s mom, Phyllis Remocker, also of Cornelius.
Having Ken and Pattie right in town will certainly complete the “invasion” of the Lagonia family. They hope to move into their new home in the next six weeks. Welcome to town.”
