Charlotte Area Transit System plans two public meetings in September to give citizens an update on planning for the North Commuter Rail Line, or Purple Line. The transit agency invites people to hear the latest project information, offer comments and questions at meetings Sept. 9 in Charlotte and Sept. 11 at Davidson Town Hall. Details below.
Here are details about the meetings. For more information, visit CATS’ north line information page, part of the 2030 Transit Corridor System Plan website. Or call 704-336-RIDE (7433).
TUESDAY, SEPT. 9, 6:30-8 p.m., Derita Presbyterian Church, 2230 West Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte.
THURSDAY, SEPT. 11, 6:30-8 p.m., Davidson Town Hall, 216 S. Main St.
The North Corridor Commuter Rail Line is proposed to run from Charlotte north to Davidson or south Iredell County, using existing railroad tracks. It is projected to cost $261 million. The state, county and towns are still studying ways to pay for the line, and it’s not certain whether the line will stretch to Mooresville or end in Davidson.
Planning has already begun for rail stations in Davidson and other towns along the line. The Davidson station would be located on Jackson Street, behind the post office. CATS held a public planning workshop for the site in June.
