Lake Norman Art League invites artists to compete for cash awards in its Fall 2008 Exhibit, which will be on display Sept. 12 to Oct. 17. The show will be the first in the league’s new gallery space in the lobby and public areas at South Main Square, 442 S. Main St., Davidson.
Artists who enter the show also will have their work judged for possible inclusion in the Rotary Club of Lake Norman-Huntersville’s Art Spectacular Show & Auction. Take-in for the show will be Sept. 8, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 442 S. Main St.
The juror is Tom Stanley, chair of the Department of Fine Arts at Winthrop University and director of Winthrop University Galleries.
The Fall 2008 Exhibit opens Friday, Sept. 12, with a reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. An awards ceremony will be at 6 p.m. More than $1,000 in cash awards will be given, with $500 for first place.
The exhibit will be open to the public during the Art League’s regular business hours, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., through Friday, Oct. 17. The new gallery is in the office suites next door to MasterWorks School of the Arts.
The art league conducts several judged exhibits annually, featuring work from members and other area artists. With the opening of the new gallery next month, the league will now add displays of members’ art work throughout the year.
AUCTION ENTRIES
Art juried into the Rotary charity auction, to benefit the Lake Norman Free Clinic and Hope House, will be announced at the Sept. 12 awards ceremony. These pieces will be displayed in the Fall Exhibit until moving to The Great Frame Up shop in Birkdale Village on Sept. 18.
The auction will have an opening reception Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. Rotary’s Wine Spectacular gala event and auction will be Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. at Northstone Country Club. One piece selected by Tom Stanley will be in the live auction, while all others will be sold in the silent auction.
