Steve Langley, known as "The Great Fetuccini," hosts the Vaudeville Extravaganza.
Davidson College press release
The annual Family Vaudeville Extravaganza will bring an entertaining troupe of mirthful and talented entertainers to Davidson College’s Duke Family Performance Hall on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, Aug. 30-31. The show comes amid the 19th annual Hurricane Hugo Juggling Festival at the college on Saturday.
The family-friendly show begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday. General admission tickets are $5 each. Tickets can be purchased online anytime at www.davidson.edu/tickets, or by phone beginning Aug, 21 at 704-894-2135 from 10-4 weekdays. They will also be available at the door until the show sells out.
Huntersville’s top New Vaudeville comedian, The Great Fettucini (a.k.a. Steve Langley), will perform some of his clever manipulations, and introduce the evening’s performers. Those scheduled to appear include theatrical juggler Michael Karras, Japanese diabolo master Tempei, comedy magician Chris Hannibal, and silent comic “Mr. Robb” Zeiser.
Saturday night’s show is a highlight of the 19th annual Hurricane Hugo Juggling Festival at Davidson College. All those interested in juggling are invited to a public “learn to juggle” session on the Davidson Village Green from 9 a.m. – noon on Saturday, Aug. 30. Juggling balls and lessons will be available.
Local jugglers held the first Hurricane Hugo festival in 1990 “in recollection of that frightful night in 1989 when Hurricane Hugo blew through, sending objects flying through the sky in an uncontrolled cascade of fury!” It is one of about 50 annual weekend festivals hosted by juggling clubs across the nation, and should attract participants from as far away as Florida and New York.
The Hurricane Hugo Juggling Festival and Vaudeville Extravaganza are sponsored by the Lake Norman Jugglers, the Davidson College Union, and Ben & Jerry’s of Davidson.
